Population/Fertility Control Thesaurus

The Population Information Program was Initiated in June 1972 under a contract from the United States Agency for International Development for the purpose of providing rapid diffusion of research findings in population as it relates to fertility control.

The terminology of the PFC Thesaurus is based on the literature collected and stored in POPINFORM by the Population Information Program. In the selection of terms and phrases, every effort was made to coordinate the vocabulary with MeSH, FMT and the PFP Thesaurus. Numerous other references were consulted for terms, definitions and scope notes including the Karolinska's Human Reproduction Thesaurus, the United Nations' Multilingual Demographic Dictionary, Dorland's Medical Dictionary, the OECD Macrothesaurus, and the International Demographic Data Directory of the International Statistical Programs Center of the U.S. Bureau of the Census.
